When I was living in France I listed my boat for sale with a Jersey Boat Broker. I made the mistake of assuming that they would be open for business between Christmas and the New Year. Hopped on a day return ferry only to find that they were closed. Obviously nobody enquires about boats during that period.

Just a thought for those selling their boats.

I have phoned 5 brokers this week with a view to looking at a couple of boats this weekend.

Not ONE - that's right, not ONE has phoned me back to confirm / make a booking.

So can I suggest if you are selling a boat and it's listed with a broker, get a mate to phone them out of hours, leave a message and see if your broker can be a**sed to pick up the phone and make a call to actually EARN their commission.

If you aren't getting lots of enquiries it just might be that they can't be bothered to do any work. I am going to go a view something tomorrow where the OWNER was on the ball, they called me back, knew about their boat and I might buy it.

Does anyone do this? Actually check their broker is on the ball?
name the broker maybe someone will pm u to book a viewing on there boat u get a boat they get a sale without the broker

I bought my Targa 33 last October from Ancasta in Falmouth and they were great. I could not fault them. Arranged everything for me from a sea trial to lifting out. I put in an insultingly low offer...which got accepted. Drove to Falmouth from Southampton 3 days later, had a seaa trail and paid the deposit...easy.

But i did see some really bad brokers.

One in Brighton had not updated their website for so long that most of the boats on it had been sold.

Another had a Targa for sale advertised as in excellent condition...guess what...it was rubbish. They wanted top money for it and it's still for sale now!

Another we saw via a broker had ripped seats..hidden under covers in the pics and not mentioned on the phone.

Went to the used boat show at Swanwick...waited about for 25 mins to get onboard a boat...only two people working on one of the busiest days of the year for them...just rubbish customer service.

Another in Southampton was only interested in dealing with me if i wanted to spend 6 figures...his mistake.

Don't pass up ebay as a place for selling boats. If everything is done right it's a good and easy place to do business.
