Tenders on davits

I plan to leave my tender on my davits. As I have only just fitted the davits there are a number of tender on davit things I need to get sorted in my head. Obviously when under weigh I need to ensure that the tender does not fill up with 1/2 ton of water etc but my query is about leaving and covering it so that only a little rain water leaks in. I am trying to visualise a cover for a inflatable that allows it to be suspended but the lines suspending the tender do not create a path for rainwater to enter the tender. I will leave out the bung but I wouold like to minimise the water ingress. I could arrange the attachment points low down on the outside of the transom and use the bow d ring as te front attachment and then an elasticated or lashed cover. I am sure to be trying to re-invent the wheel here so how do others resolve this. Thanks as usual for any suggestions.

We haul the tender up onto the davits so the bow is higher than the stern and take the transom bung out. Any water that gets in just flows out via the bung.

We did think about getting a custom cover made with a couple of sleeved holes for the davit lines (like a mast-up racing dinghy cover with a sleeve for the mast to poke through) but never got round to it so just left it as-is

We have a 10'6" RIB hanging off davits on a 38 footer and been all sorts of places with that arrangement.

Cheers

Exactly what we do. The Avon airdeck we use has a vlave you can open and close in the lower edge of the transom. Sometimes I forget to open it and we get a few gallons of water in the dinghy after a downpour overnight. It drains away very quickly when you open the valve and lower the aft end of the dinghy down.

Thanks for reponses. Part of the reason for having a cover on when I am not there is to protect the tender from UV deterioration as I have had tenders go sticky in the past.

Several issues to be dealt with or at least considered. Rain - take out the bung - the only solution, but you already knew that.
Sun -cover it up and don't over-inflate when it's cold, but a real dinghy like an Avon shouldn't be a problem. You can make sun covers for the tubes which can stay in place while the dinghy is in use if you feel it's an issue.
If you fully cover it, you can't use it as a fender park cum rubbish tip, and wont know how much water (or other things ) are under there.
Last but not least - remember the new dimensions of your boat when tight maneuvering in marinas!

There is always the less obvious but genius solution.... flip it over and store upside down.... will NEVER fill with water, but no better with the UV issue.
