Any ideas on where to buy the chocks / brackets to sit a RIB on the swim platform? Actually I also need to find and buy the cables to attach to the passarelle.

The boat is a 2005 Fairline Phantom 50 with a 2005 Avon 3.1m RIB

The chocks will probably have to be custom made. I'm not sure what arrangements you have in terms of fittings on the platform but usually there are holes into which you can drop U section stainless steel channels with locating pins. You fit the customer made wooden profiles into these U channels.

The second question is much easier to answer

Owned by a member of this parish. I have slings and ratchet tie-downs and they are a delight to use. Quick, easy, safe. Give them a call, explain what you are trying to do and they will take it from there.

I have an Avon jet rib on the bathing platform and the supports were made to suit. They're not overly complex, basically two runners about 1.5m long supported at each end and once in the middle onto which sits the rib. They are about 75mm high and work fine. I'll see if I can find a photo.

I used strops to tie it down but it's never moved even in rough seas so to be honest it normally just sits there with no ties, the jet rib may be heavier than your rib depending on the engine etc, weighs just over 300kg.

Several ways to skin this cat
I use 50x4mm s/s strip with 180x50 section teak plank atop for the chock. The teak is just screwed and glued to the s/s. The s/s strip has a pin on the far end that locates into a s/s socket set flush (or 2mm proud, bevelled) into the teak on the swim platform, and on the fwd end a hand screw going into an upside down s/s top hat set into the deck, with a threaded hole. If there is a cabin below, the s/s deck socket holes need to be blind so they are waterproof

With hi/lo platofrms the s/s locator pin is a mushroom shape and there is a keyhole slot in the deck socket, to stop them floating out

Here is an old pic of one I did a few years ago. I have refined and improved it since but this gives you the idea

But this is just my way of skinning this cat; there are others.

Everything mentioned is custom made; there is little in catalogues except that Williams supply (not particularly beautiful) ready made chock sets for their jet ribs.

We don't have them yet, but we have some great ideas to add chocks to our range.
I believe it may of been you who purchased a set of our ratchets straps yesterday (I'm told a forum member did) if so, many thanks...

Any idea when you flush fitting pad eyes are coming along ??
Hi Mike, I would hope within the next 4 weeks, we have the prototype developed, samples made, just awaiting the first batch for stock assembly from the laser profilers.
The feedback from the samples, was very positive.

Can you give some more details spotty please? Keyhole type for hi/lo platforms? Threaded type for those who want to lock the chock on with screw thread? Thickness? I wish you well with this because there is a gap in the market for catalogue tender chock items. I've found I always have to get them custom made, which seems daft because they're fairly genereic

Here is the link to the webpage :-

The top plate thickness is 5mm with a beveled edge, we are planning on to get this down a bit yet and then provide a gasket to bring it back up to "teak" level.
I totally agree with your thoughts on the chocks, we are looking at making them out of engineering plastic, I have a sample of a chock deck mounting device from Colhel, its nicely made (as always) we think we can modify it for use with our padeyes.

That link is to the strap anchor points. I'm interested in the locators for the chocks themselves. If you're planning on making the actual chocks that is a tall order. Plenty of RIB makers supply chock drawings on their websites as you know, but in real life it is often not possible to space the chocks (athwartships on the mothership) to the same dimension as the RIB manufacturers have assumed in their chock drawings. So the chock V shapes become custom. But everything else in my book should be catalogue off the shelf

I think teak is a nice alternative to plastic. Howells will supply you with unlimited 50 x 180 section, in roughly 600mm lengths, perfect for chocks and quite cheap. you could offer iroko as cheaper alternative. I would love to be able to buy 4 x deck sockets, 2x base strips in s/s, 2x hand knob screws to hold chocks down, and plain teak blocks so that I only have to cut the Vee x 2

The chocks are our next project and all ideas are welcome ! the reason for the plastic is some of the eye watering prices we have been quoted for hardwood, perhaps we need to offer a few options. I will PM you when we have got something interesting in the mounting devise. Cheers Roy

I paid £86 ex vat for 2 pieces of proper nice teak, 180 x 50 xx 660, KJHowells. Not at all eye watering - I was surprised how cheap it was
