From memory can take up to a 6hp motor, but I stand to be corrected, and if you hanker after dinghy sailing days, you have the ability to sail it also - or teach your guests.

Slightly over £2,500, but 3 types of boat in 1, and dimension wise probably about where you are looking.

I can't vouch for longevity, but can vouch for some fun..... and a very genteel way of moving around an anchorage... but in the Med there are no tides to worry about - not sure where you are based ..

I really like the idea of it but know that getting used to the boat and playing around on the tender will be enough without sails n stuff and so want to keep it simple. Maybe one for the future.
 
Just make sure you're thinking with the right head and not the boy's toys head. Unless you have a very forgiving and enthusiastic spouse. The kids will love it.

Know exactly where you're coming from. Main priority is getting to the beach etc. the speed is secondary although if I can do both then happy days.
 
If you want a hard hull for performance but want to lighten up the load so you have half a chance of dragging it up the beach and down again look for one with an aluminium hull rather than fibreglass. When you are in the Med it makes no difference I suppose but here in the UK unless you have a all tide jetty you will come to regret this boat for beach landings. For me the best compromise was removable bench seating, solid aluminium floor with inflatable keel and tiller operation. Plus removable beaching dolly wheels. It doesn't look grand but does everything well. As you have a Squaddie and space you should go for a solid hull imo but be aware you are going to grind her on the beach when your OH wants to step out in calf depth and lower water carrying the picnic goodies. And you better hope the kids and friendly passerby's are willing to help you lug it back into the water if it dries out. You will be amazed at just how awkward 60 -80 kg really is even between 4 of you. Ribeye's or speak to MES Marine in the Wirral. They've imported a line of ali hulled Ribs in from Oz that may be worth a punt.

thought it was for back of boat ? why do you need a towbar ? buy it and sell trailer !

Tiller, I prefer that control anyway plus you save weight, space and complexity.
The engine has the gear selection built into the twist grip so I have a tiller extension for when i'm on my own or standing and I dont have to reach back to select the gear.

Well I was thinking that I could get it to here and then down to the boat if on the trailer. Also, I could bring it home for winter and store in the garage. And finally, I am wondering if I would want periods without it on the back. Not sure why/when just like the flexibility and ease of transport with the trailer. I guess as long as I can get it in and out with the passerelle it makes things easier and the when anchored we can tie it on. Is that what most people do when they want to swim off the boat en-masse?

So what about something like this? https://www.bhg-marine.co.uk/ribeye-tl-310-rib-2016-model-4586-p.asp If I put a 10hp engine on the back, what approx. sort of speed would it do with one person on board. Again, speed is not the priority although I am starting to waiver and feel scope creep already. Initially just pottering onto a beach has now moved to getting on to the plane and having some more fun.

A 9.9 2stroke on the back of that will push it to ~20 knts easily and probably more. This is me on Lardarz towing a kneeboard with an adult on. That had a old Yammie 10 on. I've clocked it at speeds in excess of 25 and I kid you not when I say it's heavy. Double skinned and full of water I bet

 
Great info and video. So, next question, should I assume that if it doesn't have a solid hull that at higher speeds it won't be as comfortable/stable? Pulling a few things together from the posts, I am thinking ali hull and tiller for wait etc.

I originally was envisaging around 10kts, enough to take care of any tide and still make headway and so those speeds are much more than I expected.

I think I need to have a look at the spec of the paserelle when I'm down at the end of the month.
 
Well I have a inflatable keel under ali decking and on a 8hp I can make about 17knts. My tender is still quite heavy at about 40ish kilo and you may shave some of that off with an Airdeck. At those speeds though the inflatable keel can slalom about under the water pressure which is exciting but less than ideal. An Airdeck would probably not suffer that, or at least quite as much but the ali deck is very tough and hard wearing which if you saw the paraphernalia I have to lug about you'd understand why that's my choice.

Can you also tell me if that has a centre console and what you use to lift it on and off? And what size boat do you have that on?

Just remember though, even at the size you are looking at the weight of the tender and engine combined. Plus full fuel tank, can be close to pushing 100 kilo. Having a removable dolly system on the transom for the beach is pretty critical and the good ones have big wheels. Ugly as sin, but you wont care after a few lift and carries. Alternatively if the beach slope is not to shallow a gradient have a look for "Anchor buddy"

That's my mates centre console I was speaking of. He has it on the back of a Princess V40 on Hurley Davits and a winch. Make no mistake I would not recommend that without a crane or Simpson Davits to haul it out the water. Any sort of rolling sea can make this combo fraught and I've known him to tow the tender 5nm upside down and motor drowned to get to calmer water to retrieve it....after waking me up at stupid o clock to drag it to the beach to upright it first.

Thank again. And so as long as the paserelle will lift it (will check when I'm next down) and we don't go mental in the wrong conditions we should be ok. Main thing is that if that can go on a 40' then shouldn't be a problem on the 50' I have.
 
My advice if I may reiterate is if you go for a heavy fibreglass hull you need a crane of sorts to put it on it's chocks. A luxury you will not have on the other end of the journey, the beach. The best compromise is a aluminium hull but even then for a 3m tender you are looking at an all up weight push 100 kilo. So either an anchor buddy system or dolly wheels (ugly with a capital U but functional) will be, well, mandatory.
As for centre console they are great for water sports but absolutely terrible in the size you are looking at for passenger carrying plus picnic basket capacity. Passengers trying to perch on the tubes have their feet to close to them so feel slightly unbalanced. The deeper V hull means they more uneasily unbalance the boat and suffer from wet backsides and they cant easily shift their weight without putting their head in your lap.

Just had dinner and was discussing with family and come to the same conclusion as above. I will find somewhere where I can go and see a range of them. There was a place in Weymouth that had quite a few upstairs and a place in Norfolk but they were silly money. Not sure if there is anything within a reasonable distance from Gosport where I can see them up close.

BTW. watched a video of the Boat Buddy, bleedin genius.
