The machine screws holding the whole assembly to the cockpit side are hidden under a cover.
The cover can't be removed until the operating lever is removed.
At the other end of the shaft on which the lever is mounted is a machine screw with a large diameter washer.
I assume removing them should allow the lever and its shaft to be withdrawn inboard.
Is that right?

Unfortunately it won't budge.
Have I misunderstood how to dismantle it or am I facing a dissimilar metal corrosion situation?
I'd like to know before I start applying force to alloy components!

The operating lever is normally fitted onto a splined shaft and held in place with a grub screw. Remove the grub screw and pull the lever off.
See here... http://www.troppo.co.uk/odds/TX%20Controls%20B700SS.pdf

The allen type grub screw is located on the underside of the lever. If you find that after removing the grub screw the lever is seized onto the shaft you will have to cut the splined shaft with a hacksaw and replace the lot.

...you will have to cut the splined shaft with a hacksaw and replace the lot.

That may be a bit pessimistic, but best to accept the possibility at the outset. You may manage to pull the lever off by heating it, but a blowtorch can play havoc with the finish!

Rob.

Just to add, with the lever off the splines the plastic cover plate should pull off the metal frame. It clips into place so there's a bit of initial resistance. It may also have been stuck to the cockpit with sikaflex or the like to stop leaks. With the cover plate off the mounting screws are exposed.

(I'm currently in the middle of replacing one of these after an unsuccessful repair attempt.)

As Rob says I was a bit pessamistic but I was just preparing you for the worst. Try some penetrating fluid in it for a day or two then as suggested try some heat on it. After that get the hacksaw out.
