anyone got this on a boat around the harbour? I m wondering what it looks like in the real, rather than just a panel on display. Anyne know what having teak fitted would cost per square metre?
I think they use this stuff on the floor of Valiant RIB's - I was looking at one a couple of weeks ago and thought it looked and felt great considering it's not the real thing. Perhaps these guys can help find you a local dealer so you can have a look at it for yourself:
I don't think you would get anybody to quote you a price per square meter on teak deck laying as it all depends on the complexity of the installation. To give you an idea, it cost us about 6K last year for an atlantic 38 - side decks, foredeck, cockpit and bathing platform/steps etc. Not cheap but transformed the boat. Incidentally we had quotes for flexi- teak plastic stuff which was in fact not much cheaper. Easier to maintain but you always know it isn't the real thing.
Agents for tek dek are MC products tel 01243 432452. They will send you samples and do a quote if required. There are 2 types flexible and professional. The professional is more expensive and has teak fibres contained within it so it is difficult to tell the difference - in fact it is argued that it is better than the real stuff. The flexible is also a good likeness without the maintenance.
I fitted TEK-Dek last year and have found it great. Easy to keep clean and good on bare feet. OK so it may not look exactly like real teak, but nor does teak itself after a while. I intend having it fitted to my next boat.
