The teak on my 2000 Beneteau has gone grey in parts, I would like to brighten it up. Any suggestions on the easiest and best way to do this and when? The forecast for the weekend/Monday looks pretty good, or is it best left to next season?

If it has not previously been varnished, just give it a good scrub. This should bring out the colour in the wood. If it doesn't, give it a light sanding.

To maintain the colour use teak oil. This usually lasts 3 months ('ish), then you start again!

Avoid varnish. (teak and it don't get along.
Some people quite like the silvery finish of clean, but not oiled, teak. That is what I do with my bathing platform.

To have good looking decks you need to do two things: scrub them to remove the dirt, bleach them to look good.

Scrub down with a commercial product - I think I used TeakBrite - leaving for about 5 minutes to bleach, then scrub-wash down with lots of running water.

The result will be beautiful pinkish-white decks, within about 3 months going back to silvery-grey.

My routine, do the job in spring, mid-summer.

I have been using Tropical Teak oil on my Toe rail and handrails after cleaning down with one of the teak preperations such as Deks Rens. Try and avoid scrubbing too much because you will make the teak very rough by pulling out the softer grain. A light sand and then 1 to 2 coats of the Tropical teak Oil and it usually will last 6 months I then touch up again about now if the weather will let me and this will last the winter. And then you start again in the spring. Fun this boating lark!

Scrub, light sand if a bit rough, mild mix of oxalic acid (teak brightener) teak oil, once or twice a year, no problems. The oxalic, makes the wood look like it was felled yesterday!
