I need to do a bit of cabinet work next winter.

Does anyone have an affordable source for reasonably convincing "Teak" faced ply panels. 4,5 or 6mm thick would be good; no need to be quality or real teak and manufactured alternatives would be fine. Not Robbins. Thanks.

Don't think you will find any affordable teak faced ply. You might consider what I did and buy veneers from here thewoodveneerhub.co.uk/collections/decorative-wood-veneer/products/teak-wood-veneer and bond onto ordinary ply using Titebond or Gorilla glue. You need to do it under pressure - I clamp between 2 melamine faced MDF boards.

This particular veneer is rather dark but you might be able to find a veneer that blends in amongst others in their range or from other suppliers. I used this one for the top of the engine box/step, but have also used Sapele in other areas like the switch panel and the cabin table in the photos

I hope to avoid a lot of veneering if I can possibly help it but needs must.

BTW, for items that don't require the best work, here is a great bargain. This style is out of stock but they do another with less red in it:

Pardon our interruption...

It's real timber - but not as we know it.

Yes, I have used that stuff - lots of it in American White Oak from WVH. That needs even more care but the same principle of even clamping pressure and leave for 24 hours. The 0.6mm real veneers are much more tolerant. I found a very good Youtube tutorial from the US maker which helped enormously.

Engine cover in real teak and galley top with oak
