Yes, sticky caulking seems to be a problem for some. As with many boats, Westerly Oceanlords cost a fortune to correct, as virtually all of the deck fittings had to be removed, involving huge amounts of labour. After spending what seemed like half my life fixing the teak deck on my old Hallberg-Rassy, I vowed never to have one again, so I specified fake teak for my new-build Bavaria. It still has caulking, but that seems fairly stable so far.

I know where you are coming from and agree with you - but (read a BIG but) - a sorted teak deck dont half look nice

I don't remember if it was a Bavaria, but I do remember a flotilla yacht that was deeply irritating by leaving black streaks on any shorts used to sit on the cockpit seat caulking...

Caulking and UV isn't a great combination, it seems.

The teak panels I fitted in my cockpit have Sikaflex 298 as the caulking. Fitted just over 4 years ago and have never left any marks on any clothing.

Yes a great advantage of Flexiteak ( other brands also of fake teak) is that it doesn’t have sticky caulk. Just avoid the temptation to put on the cabin roof though. We specified from new and no regrets so far after 5 years use. I have my suspicions that in early Bavaria’s they didnt use Sikaflex though hence marks on shorts etc.

The best caulking IMO is Teak Decking Systems. More expensive than most but great to work with, that’s what I done my deck with.
