Mine is badly scratched and worn. What is the best method of restoring it without turning it into a skating rink especially when wet

Went through same process myself just over two years ago.

Eventually settled for Ronseal Floorcare "Floor Varnish", and the clear gloss version. Initially I applied the matt finish on a test panel, but was disappointed with the result. I contacted the Ronseal technical department, as I was worried about the shiny and perhaps slippery floor under foot when wet: they reassured me that the shiny effect did not mean that it would end up like a skating rink - and they were right.

The cabin sole has now had two season use, looks very good and shrugs off water and dirt - and we don't fall over more often than usual!

However to get a good finish, it is necessary to spend some effort in preparation of the wood surface beforehand - as in most jobs. I am glad that the time, elbow grease and several sheets of fine/superfine paper were rewarded by the satisfaction of a 'job well done' at the end. But it can be a winter job in the warmth of home!

Best of luck.

I use teak oil on mine - rub it on with a pad of kitchen paper, leave it an hour to soak in, then rub the surplus off with clean kitchen paper. Leaves a nice, non-shiny, non-slip finish.
