Whilst it might have been fun to go for the biggest thread in ybw history, the last one went bonkers in under 24 hrs, to paraphrase Matt, and was becoming a bit unwieldy.

So, here's the new one. Matt and MooseNo1 flew out to join the 2 South African blokes Matt befriended and who stayed on D2 for the past week. The 4 intrepid adventurers now report sea trials completed and a lump sum paid to 'Monsieur le spanners'.

Now just set off (according to text message roughly 10 seconds ago) across Biscay, with destination up to weather/sea conditions en-route (see Lounge for possible route) and port and eta flexible according to conditions.
 
Personally, liked Matt's idea of getting road transport to Mars (well, Marseilles, in non txt speak) and then txting me perfectly accurate en-route conditions of 50knts head wind conditions

Chase that rainbow /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Latest news from Di (while we sorted out his overfull pm box) is that tcm has txt'd and is off Raz de Seine. I don't know that part of world, so any helpful comments?

Wish him and crew luck everyone! Not the easiest passage, but he knows what he's doing
 
Don't know much about Raz de Seine except that, like Portland, it's not the kind of place you'd want to hang around in a wind over tide situation - but I suspect tcm knows this. Can't be that rough at the moment, if he's managed to text Mrs tcm :-)

As you say, best of luck to him, and here's to a swift landfall.
 
Matt and I have a fairly good idea, through weather sites and bouys in Biscay, anyone that that want's to chip in with ideas would be more than welcome

errr, if you nicked the boat then surely you'd also nick the fuel /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
So if you nicked a boat with near empty fuel tanks? What then? How far would you get, and how would you navigate to nearest place that can take a boat that size to refuel, and how would you work out passage plan to include only places that can take that size of boat, to include only those places that can take that size of boat and time of tide, as many places can only accomodate boats that size at certain heights of tide.

Moose No1 (and Tcm) have done a good job in this regard. I wonder if many forumites would have done as much pre-planning and preparation.
 
Yes, poss, but Matt is planning on near coast trip, with poss that it will interfere with passage plan. See lounge and other forums for his comments

Indeed they have. But all things considered wouldn't it have been a tad easier just to stick it on a ship?
 
Which ship? Matt did look into road transport from Brest, but no joy. can't comment further, need him to give details. Anyway, by water far more fun and much more amusing to forumites
 
Maybe there was no ship, dunno. In which case no choice but to do it as planned. But if there was then taking into account time, wear and tear, weather and any other hassle such as fuel leaks, it would be hard to put a case up for the current method, unless of course entertaining forumites is really that important.
