tcm trip update thread 2

Ship is logical choice Magnum and tcm would agree 100% if decision were just based on pure logic. But he just wants to do it this way I think becos he was let down so badly by the northbound ship almost exactly this time last year :-)

Moose No1 (and Tcm) have done a good job in this regard. I wonder if many forumites would have done as much pre-planning and preparation.

Behave Brendan!

I can certainly understand Matts decision to do the trip himself. Entrusting a vessel to a third party, insured or not , is no g'tee that it will arrive

a) on time
b) undamaged
c) at all

I know having used a reputable UK firm to road haul my boat from SoF to the Uk..
I'd never do it again!

It arrived 2 weeks over schedule, a 12' gash down port side, a broken bed in the master cabin??? stained carpet???? , cracked radar arch, damaged teak deck and so filthy that it took them 3 days to clean it!

I would go back by sea for sure and rather break the boat myself then give that pleasure to some couldn't care-less driver!

He did bring her round to Soto last year en route to S'Hampton with the intention on putting her on a ship in Gib, even left us the keys to take her to Gib for him. Alas he was pissed about so much with ship arrival times that he decided to cruise her round to S'Hampton .

So probably disillusioned with shipping companies

I had my boat shipped from Soton to Palma, It arrived filthy and damaged. Certainly would only do it again if it was the last possible solution

And here was us hoping for another epic tale on sailing the Biscay!!!!

Why don't you do what Matts doing? He did do it very sucessfully last year, and so far this time, its just a few minor cliches thats slowing him down.

They'd be plenty of crew to help you!!

Matt just called he is in Bilbao. The engine is behaving well and is "solid". The chap who fixed it called him to see how it was doing, which was nice.

He has arrived at lunchtime so no fuel for a bit.

Any ideas of weather would be appreciated for the North Spanish coast.

weahter punt

Good news Diana.

Immediate forcast for the Bilbao-and-onwards leg looks good. Suggest crack on at medium pace only, as the winds till tomorrow midday will have plenty of westerly innem but then switch to offshore from the coast of N spain, ie southerly, hence better seas.

Re getting down the coast of portugal, westerlies look set for next several days. But saturday looks the worst day for westerlies onto portugal. From Sunday onwards they lighten up and Monday/Tuesday is all very nice Portugal/Gibraltar ish and beyond. So his timing looks pretty good, and the weather suggests moderate pace rahter than full bore, as he would be better doing the westbound N Spain leg tomorrow and the southbound (portugal) leg sunday-Tuesday)

hope all goes well

Jfm

He was thinking when we spoke that wouldn't be going anywhere else today.

But he will be keen to hear what you say and I am sure Brendan will relay to him.

So it all looks good now for a summer in France.

Can't wait.

Re: weahter punt

Are you saying that another English summer in the Solent wasn't an exciting prospect then Diana? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

BTW your posts are a lot more interesting than the ones usually posted under this name. I think you should claim squatters rights while he is otherwise engaged /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
