Taylor's 079d heater- leave on?

No need to be confused..
Here from the manufactures instructions page 1: NOTE: Please remember diesel is a light heavy oil and will burn slightly more yellow than blue.
I would say that you should see blue( alright blue and yellow), thru a smoke free clear inspection window and the flame should be a column of little flames emitting g from the central 'burner' tube.

Important to be clear and not mislead, my error.

Many thanks - I'll strip it down properly for a clean. I see just yellow though sometimes green while it is warming. So far, I've only pipe cleaned to diesel input.
 
There is a spiral, flat plate baffle inside that wraps around the central burner tube and holds/collects a surprising amount of crud over the months or years, as does the chimney itself, reducing its effective diameter

Being resolutely non electronic, it is very easy to dismantle the whole unit and simply flush thru using a freshwater hose pipe ( or dunk in the sea on a string) to decoke ...
