I have just read in "earthmovers" magazine, that the tax on red diesel is being increased by 57% from Sept 1st. HMG gives the reason as environmental , but the widely held view is that they are trying to claw back the revenue lost as a result of red being used illegally in road vehicles, probably peeved at leisure boaters use too. I must say it wont affect my boating at mo, (ive got a petrol guzzler) but I do run plant, and like everybody in the industry extra costs will have to be passed on to the customer, like the aggregate tax currently running at £1-60 per tonne extra every April which is another stealth tax the average joe public no nothing about but it ulimately pushes prices up. After all this Id still rather have a diesel in my boat, purely because of the safety aspect ,and, if possible a conventional non computer managed engine for reliability. Have a great season folks and make use of the cheap juice while you can!!!!!
