Nick - didn't see the program but I gathered they have gone spectacularly bust with a fraud investigation.
I seem to remember this guy doing a runner with clients money a few times before....... Nasty ....

Tony Chappel did not come out of it well. I have friends who bought a new trader a year or so back the delivery of which was delayed by the best part of a year. Seems they were lucky to get their boat at all.

The programme identified that he brokered a boat and sold it for £300K and told the owners he sold it for £290K.
He should be in prison doing a year per £1K he has swindled from the seller.

He also continued to charge the seller £800 per month for keeping the boat in Emsworth when it was in Denmark!!! Then he swindled the chap in Denmark as well!!!

Hope fully he will never recover from this or any company he may be associated with again, surely no one will ever trust him again, its companies like this that give the marine industry a bad name, will he ever show his face again at a boat show.

Chappel sold my Trader. The original buyer pulled out and forfeited his deposit. Notwithstanding James Course (Chappell's sidekick) confirmed to me in writing that no commission was due on the first aborted 'sale'. Chappell deducted commission on the first (aborted) AND the second (successful) sale. Iwas in the process of suing him whem he went bust.
He also charged me GBP17K for repairs off n estmate of GBP3K, also deducted from sale proceeds. And whilr the boat was moored at Emsworth he charged GBP1,000 per month for mooring and cleaning. I live abroad and paid a couple of 'surprise' visits to the yard. Needless to say, on both occasions it was pretty clear that my boat had not been cleaned in weeks / months. Reason given was something to do with av recent dust storm from Siberia - although the dirt seemed only to have landed on my boat!

Those Siberian dust storms are renowned for making boats dirty around the Solent!!
The list of dissatisfied customers continues to grow. Just a shame that there seems no way of letting prospective customers know when there's a problem that they should be aware of before dealing with any given company/individual.
Just out of interest, what happened to the forfeited deposit, presumably that was passed on to you?

Erk. And have you checked that the price he said it sold for was actually the price the buyer paid? Try to contact the buyer to ask? You might find another £10k...

Yep, the forfeted deposit was part of the final statement, out of which he deducted both commisions and all the other spurious charges.
I half suspected he was behind the syndicate that bought the Emsworth yard out of administation - do you happen to know if he was?

Good point - I'll do that although I can't imagine I have any cause of action against the new owner and Chappell is bust so no joy there either.

The "syndicate" consists of his sons, if I recall the programme correctly.

You might be surprised. If he defrauded you about the sales price he is facing criminal fraud and 2 years being careful not to drop the soap in the showers at one of Her Majesty's hip hotels. So if you actually discover a price difference, email him and ask him if he prefers (a) send you the money out of his personal resources or (b) you send the file to the police. He might well chose (a), and he said in the TV program that he intended to refund the lady who was short changed by £10k on her Trader sale in this way, possibly for the same basic reason.
I think it is well worth your while tracking down the person who bought your boat. Do you know which port it is now moored in? Someone on here might be a neighbour

Yep, give us the name of the boat and I bet someone on here knows where it is, and can contact the owner, or even leave a note on the boat to ring you.
