..........for a non-boaty application.

I need to apply a 10-digit identifier to a surface regularly exposed to dirt, grass, grime etc. I have about a dozen such applications. Similar to marking a gang of clutches on the coachroof. I've been looking at tape printers. There seems to be a bewildering array of choices. I subscribe to the view of "buy cheap, buy twice" but I don't want to spend more than I need to, given my limited requirement.

Any suggestions for a good value, decent tape printer with tapes giving good adhesion in a reasonably dirty environment?

Many thanks :)

good adhesion in a reasonably dirty environment?
The most important bit of that is getting the surface clean before sticking the tape on it. A layer of dirt will let the tape lift off no matter how good it is.

I have a Dymo machine, not an expensive one, but the labels on my halliard clutches are still there after several years and are legible, though they rarely get direct sunlight.

I have a Brother H110 which I have been pleased with - around £40 from memory. Labelled all my sheet clutches two years ago and the labels still look good, despite being out in the weather.

I have a Brother P Touch 1090, but it is a few years old now so there are newer models.

Make sure you get laminated label tape as it will last years.
I buy mine off e bay and their are lots of colours and sizes.

Sadly the Lidl ones went very quickly as I looked to buy one for my daughter with no luck. I have a brother p touch 1000 which has served me well for at least 5 years .

+1 for the Brother range with laminated tape. Some models have useful print modes (eg centering) and symbols etc plus capacity for wider tape.
Mixed results with unbranded tapes but of course you don't know until you use them. I wish they'd do a model with higher resolution print though.

Another vote for Brother. Got aPT-H100R from Argos a few weeks ago. Incredible array of type configurations etc., but I only use large bold. Twenty odd quid, but the replacement casettes (OEM) are about £14. Razorblades again.
