Tankers off Lowestoft

Look East aired a package about it last week. They stop to transfer cargoes apparently. It seems to be bringing a small degree of prosperity to Lowestoft, with boats servicing them and doing crew transfers.

Had 'experts' says 'it's safer to do it at sea than in harbor' or 'it's not safer to do it at sea...' or maybe both: don't really listen to 'experts'.

Cheaper is the word you misheard!! A lot cheaper than paying to go into a Port.

The sea off Lowestoft is the only place in England where licensed ship-to-ship oil transfers can take place. Many are at anchor waiting for work due to the recession.

All fine until there is a mishap or oil spill, fingers crossed the beaches and sea life continue to be oil free.

I saw a bit in EADT recently, the environmentalists are concerned about the risk of oil spillage.

It was said that the transfers are to smaller tankers that can get up to the Baltic as the big supertankers cannot get there.
