Hi all,

Anyone can tell me if TAMD61A and TD61 (trucks) are the same motors.

I`m thinking to buy some spares in Volvo Trucks and I need to know if they are compatible.

Please, let me know.

Best regards

Don't bother I've been down this road before, the marine units fuel pump, injectors, piston etc are different, filters are roughly the same if you can fit the long ones.

Forget it. I just finished converting a truck spec D7 to a bus spec very recently and it's a nightmare.

Buy a motor, throw 3/4 of it in the skip and buy all the new bits to replace the ones you threw away.

Bits discarded and replaced off the top of me head:

Inj pump
Ex manifold.
inlet manifold
front rocker cover
turbo
exhaust choke unit.
injector pipes.
thermostat housing and rear water outlet.
oil filter heads and reg valves.
practically all the interconnect water pipes.
oil cooler pipes.
wiring loom
exhaust choke pressure feed line.
turbo feed line
turbo drain tube.
compressor
compressor coolant hoses.
compressor inlet tube.
hydraulic pumps
belt tensioners and brackets.
alternator mountings.
flywheel and flywheel housing.
crank sensor.
temp sensor.
boost sensor and plate.
No 1 injector.
Inlet air heating unit.
Inlet spigot.
dipstick and tube.
Flex plates.
rear tappet cover and walking stick type breather tube.

hundreds of plugs, bolts, grommets and clips.

New engine unavailable but I would bet it would not be much more expensive than the one I just built to replace the one that had suffered a fire in the engine bay.
Glad it's not me paying the bill.

So no, not practicable really unless you are desperate.

How come there's such a big difference between bus spec and truck spec?

For a start, truck engines and radiators are at the front, bus radiators often are at the rear of the engine so all the piping is completely wrong.
Bus engines are usually derated as they do not need to go fast or pull heavy loads, but need to run for thousands of hours per year and do it cleanly.
Bus engines are often customised for a specific chassis and fitout as supply only engines for the likes of Optare who have their own special requirements rather than put in a Volvo chassis (driveline cassette fitment in Optare's case).

In road use use, different pistons are required for whichever emission standard the motor meets. Even the thickness of the injector washers are different. Some specs don't even have them at all. Buses often have as many as 3 alternators fitted and as many hydraulic pumps.

Very hi tech these days those buses you see trundling round.

Many thanks to all.

Ok ........... I already finish my "long trip" trying to searh compatibilitis in the amazing (and crazy) world of internet.

I star today my negotiation with an Volvo Penta mechanic and we decide to start with turbos and injectors repairs / replacement.
