Did you find it?I'm heading down to my boat later to have a look. Hopefully i have two separate coolant temp sensors in the same places as Snowbird.
Otherwise I'll be joining you in the hunt for the other one!

Do you have a warning light/alarm and a temp gauge ?

Yes they do, it seems ; VOLVO Diesel Recmar Temperature SensorRight then... I'm in Jake's camp. Annoyingly I can only see 1 sensor on the thermostat with a single blade connector but no other sensors are visible in that area (different to Snowbird's pics - there's nothing above the lifting eye).
However, I do have a separate Temp Gauge (analogue dial) AND a warning light / alarm on the VP engine display panel. And they are currently giving different readings underway.
The other bolt is a blanking plug but the manual/cutaway drawings say that's where both the temp sensors should be - so where is the other sensor plug?
I didn't have time to take all the seats out and lift the whole floor up yesterday but if anyone else knows where the other one is I'd be much appreciated
Or do some motors have both the gauge and alarm running off the same sensor?
Pretty sure that's the oil pressure gauge sender.View attachment 196884
I've circled the thing I was referring to. This was taken when the heat exchanger and oil cooler were removed, the smaller solid pipe being where the oil cooler inlet is attached and the larger plastic pipe is the lower heat exchanger connector. This is a 41a so could be different to other models.
I'm certain that the sender on the left is the oil light and the one on the right is the pressure gauge. Zoom in and you can see that they are both screwed into the oil gallery. Would be pointless fitting coolant temp senders so low, they are below the water jacket.Just did a bit more searching...
Apparently there is another Temp sensor down under the heat exchanger but not sure if it's the left or right in the pic.

In the pic below you can just see a plug with two wires just behind the alternator which looks promising.
Hard to get down there on my boat so will have a better look next time and see what works where when things are disconnected.
Reading this thread again it appears the Temp sensors got moved all over the place depending on which version of engine you have.
41A - could have both on the Thermostat (like Snowbird pic)
41A - one on Thermo and one behind the Alternator (like Cohel said)
41P - one on Thermo and other TBC (maybe down behind the Alternator again)??
