SB engine cut out today at around 3100rpm. Engine is getting fuel to the injectors and air filter is new. Cranks away but not even attempting to fire. Surely I can't loose all compression in a split second? Or maybe I can? Ideas anyone?

Aye. Injectors seem to be getting plenty of clean fuel. I even replaced the lift pump as I had a spare. I am confused!

The chance of it being anything other than fuel is close to zero.

When it spins over I assume it still sounds normal? Like chug chug chug. And not whirring away with no resistance?
If so you still have compression on at least some of the cylinders.

I’d bleed all of the injectors one after another. Crack the injector, spin the engine over until diesel is pissing out and then do the next one. It will start…

You could also rig up a temporary fuel supply to the engine filter bypassing everything else. It’s possible air is being sucked in somewhere intermittently.

Copy that.

Will try again tomorrow. Yes, engine cranks as normal. At least it sounds normal to me!

Cheers for the advice.

While you do see fuel the injection pump will send some in cranking but when you close the lines it's zero , the only proper way to test is to connect t another injector outside the head then crank . Or remove one and do that test very easy .
You might find it's the stop solenoid , do you have a fire system linked to the engine ? Remove the wire from the stop solenoid and try , I've had the 41 pump break up inside blocking the fuel port .

Hi Paul.

No fire system. Will disconnect solenoid and try. I can hear it clicking when turning the key so i assumed it was ok.

When you say pump breaking up do you mean hp or lp pump?

The injector stuff is outside of my skill set, or equipment set but good to know.

Many thanks.

Darren.

Is your stop solenoid not “power to stop”?

If you disconnect it does it stop clicking?

I have a spare stop solenoid. Maybe a silly question but is it easy enough to remove the original? I can see it but the injection pump has a plastic bit that sits directly above it.

Also, does anyone know the size of the input port on the lift pump? Is it M12? Thinking about rigging up a seperate fuel supply to the lift pump

Cheers.

Remove the stop solenoid 24mm spanner , pump the lift pump to see a flow of fuel hopefully, check to see what exits the pump ,mid you see little brown particles it’s the Cush drive that’s broken up .

Update of sorts. Solenoid is ok, had it out and stuck a new one in. Injector pump is full of fuel and no air in the system. A good volume of diesel is getting to the injectors but zero pressure behind it? Can't see any black bits of cush drive but seems like something is wrong with the injector pump.

Pull an injector , split one injector pipe from its bracket , fit injector to pipe and crank , you will see if it’s atomising or not , if no then you have a pump problem.
