I am assuming that like most marine engines the 'base' of this engine is probably that of a truck, am I correct in this?. They used to smoke a bit back in the UK, (I am told this is common), but , as we use road diesel down here I have noticed the smoke becoming less as red is depleted and is replaced by white, am I imagining this or has anyone else noticed this trend?. Finally they always start first time and idle and run beautifully (despite 1500 hours on the clock), could this be because they have a relatively unstressed output of 55bhp per litre?, very low by modern standards I believe
