TAMD 63P versus D6

Has anyone experience of Phantom 40's with both engine types? Are the D6's considerably quieter / more refined? How do they comparewith the other engines(Cats I think) that were offered with this boat?

D6 a totally different animal to the 63P.
CAT version 420 HP so def more grunt and maybe 2 knots at top end.
If your buying go forD6 but remember all the woes we have on here.

What a question Pete, hmmmm.

If you want to service the 63 with non genuine oil, fuel, filters etc the 63 def wins.
The D6 is expensive on parts as there genuine and I wouldn't use anything else, better on fuel than the 63.
Cat, well a diff end ball game, can use non genuine filters like Fleetguard, Donalson, Baldwin. Most Cat oil and fuel filters are single and competitive, it's anodes and sherwood impellers that make your eyes water! late starter will,five fuel figures are true HP , but cat are good at matching pairs of engines before there sold to end user and true on the HP figure unlike Yanmar.
As you know I've just sold my Phantom 43 , it wasn't shy on HP compared to the phantom 40 , 3ft longer about 2 tons heavier but has another 220hp which gave it really long legs and good fuel return, it used no more than my old Princess 410. A very sweet boat that gave 30 plus knots and 29 with a years growth on the bottom. The 43 has all the sweet bits the 40 doesn't like 2 decent heads and cabins, a cockpit you can erect a good size table and 2 chairs , a great bathing platform and fly. I remember Trevor telling me never to buy one, buy a 40 he said, you'll never sell a 43 they were too much money at the start that's why the run was short.
