Tamd 63 Black Smoke Low Power

Hi New Member read a old post from Markone in 2017 on a similar issue. Port engine will not get to 1600 rpms when trying to get on plane and blows excessive black smoke. Turbo spins free. Removed and cleaned aftercooler. Still have same problem. Starboard engine runs fine. Did Markone ever resolve his issue.

Check for boost leaks, Hose, Inlet manifold gasket.

Check the turbo waste gate and also check the fuel filters.

Thanks Gentlemen did all of the above. Pulled the Turbo yesterday and found the waste gate wasted. Shaft that seats in seal rotted and broken off. Deciding whether to refit turbo with new waste gate or replace the whole turbo.

Unless the valve seat where the wastegate pushes up to is immaculate I would fit a new turbo.

Yes. My new Turbo is coming in today. Spoke to a rebuild shop apparently this type of turbo does not get rebuilt often.

It would be worth checking out the other turbo. The engine with the new turbo will work better. the 63Ps do'nt give any information about performance so keep your eye on the fuel consumption of both engines for a while. If it starts to become significantly different one engine (with the new turbo) is working harder than the other.

Yes will do considering replacing Starboard turbo in the off season.

Try it without the airfilter for a very short trip.
