Folk will know that I've been sick, so have not seen the boat for some months.

I got one mob to do some winterising, servicing done for me and get the injectors tested.

No winterising done or servicing.

The injectors done apart from one, which they say is not seating properly.

First they said they needed a special tool, to clean the seating area. Now they say the seating's cracked, so it needs replacing. First they said, this means head off, then said they dont know.

They have been at the job since September, still no signs of finishing.

So whats the job, to seat an injector, does the head need to come off?? ( I would not have thought it that big a deal anyway).

Would it be wise to replace all the seatings whilst the head is off??

Sounds to me like they dont know volvos so if I we were you id keep them clear of your motors and get someone in who does.

There are 2 ways to cure blowby on injectors on the tamd41, firstly you can buy the correct volvo tool and clean the seat, if its beyond repair then you have to fit new copper sleeves.

You DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE HEAD, just hire the correct tools which will pull them free of the head, removing the head and trying to punch them out can damage the head so dont go there.

The tool will pull the sleeves out, then you clean up the head, fit new sleeves and o rings, clean up the injectors and away you go.

Thanks Paul, I thought you'd have the answer. Unfortunately I seem to be stuck with the numbies, or the ones that dont turn up at all.

I'll try and find out where there up to, then see if I can find a Volvo guy, if one exists.

Nuther one. One engine is loosing about 3 pints of water a day, it only looses it on full bore, looses little or nothing at 8 knots or so.

The leak is not visible. The oil cooler is new and the heat exchanger has been off and checked. The manifold has had new gaskets, because it appeared to have a leak. Is it possible that theres a small crack in the manifold??

It does not seem to be one of the "normal" O ring leaks.. Water is not going into the oil.

Fancy a trip up to N Wales, this lot cost a fortune for a none mend.

Hire a Sheep for those Numties to distract them :Dthen get a Pro into the engine bay ;)

It sounds that you may have a loose injector sleeve that is leaking but I suspect that you would have more damage if it is just the sleeve
As Paul has said the injector sits in a copper sleeve which is surrounded by coolant if this sleeve is loose then the coolant is not sealed and is why the coolant should be drained when you pull the injectors as it is not unknown for the sleeve to come with the injector if the proper pulled is not used

If you do have a leaking sleeve there may be cause to take the head off and check for further damage

Hmmm. Except the water leak is on one engine and the injector is on the other.:)

Sorry it was simple error but have the injectors been touched on the leaky engine?

Yes all 12 injectors have been out, checked and replaced with 6 new ones and 6 mended ones..

Thinking about it, I'm not sure I know which engine has the leaking injector. But in any case it was not leaking before, so no reason to think it's part of the water leak problem.

Might be up for N wales when the weather gets kinder, send me some deatils via a pm.

If there are no visible leaks, firsly the oil coolers sea water cooled so nothing to do with water loss.

The heat exchanger my have a leak so needs pressure testing along with all other components, dont strip the engine until the leak has been found, if you cant get anyone local let me know, tamd41 not rocket science at all, ive rebuilt 6 this year alone!
