Talking about Marina\'s

Given that there is extra marina capacity coming online with the new Weymouth marina, and the expected reduction in the number of Berth customers caused by the Credit Crunch, do we expect the costs to reduce as the competion for our custom increases?
Personally I am not holding my breath, but it might give individuals a negotiating lever!

I think you might see a lot of marinas holding their prices, which means a reduction in real terms.

MDL are already dropping berthing prices to some commercial tenants.

If we (ordinary retail) MDL berthholders do nothing, then of course they will just hold prices. Please can ALL of us call up MDL now and ask for a big discount for next year if we are to renew. If enough of us do this they might just take notice when deciding next year's rates.

Good idea, we've just been told at work that our annual bonus is not going to happen. This used to pay for berthing fees and servicing etc, so I have to find about six and half grand I don't have!

Any discount would be very welcome

I spoke to MDL at SIBS, as I'm looking for a berth on the Hamble.

Got a quote for Mercury at £8,800 for 13.5 metres, however it was stressed that this was this years price and they were expecting a 5% increase for next year.

FWIW Hearsay at Mercury indicates a price increase in 2009. Apparantly they have a waiting list for 12-15m boats. Guess its time to look around at alternatives.

To put that into perspective, I will pay approx £9400 for a 15m berth in one of the best marinas in Palma, Majorca this year and diesel is about 85p/litre compared to maybe £1/litre in the UK after Nov.
I'm off there tomorrow for a week. It's still 20-25degC. Food for thought?
