Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

We could easily accommodate you vessel in Gosport. A lot of superyachts use it as an "off the radar" bolt hole.

H.

Thanks Henry,

Appreciated. This might work out well.

Will keep you posted. I did have in mind sending it to London to sit in the royal docks as a base there... but ended up with more questions than answers wherever I turn!

MapisM....

Slightly starting to tire of the trolling; so you're invited to join fml above and chip in with the beers.

Money-where-your-mouth-is kinda scenario :-)
Well, a beer and sausage BBQ is always an attractive proposition regardless of any gamble, so count me in.
As a worst case scenario, I'll offer to arrange it on my similar size old tub, if you don't mind measuring her in feet rather than meters...
And I might even throw in some swordfish steaks for the grill, for those who prefer fish to meat, as I do! :encouragement:

Spada good for me P

Lovely!

That's made me very happy. A nice post!!

Apologies for the meat. Fish is good. I believe we have the launch party arranged.

What a bunch of suspicious gits. I see no reason to think that we are being trolled.
In fact, I'm already packing up for the largest and longest forum cruise party ever: C_R, just let us know the dates.

Oh, and while you are working on your plans, you might as well consider to cruise for some time the Sicily Strait.
I'm sure that the IT Navy would appreciate the support of a vessel capable to handle 200 migrants stranded at sea! :encouragement:

! You're on both sides, MapisM !

Mmmmm.
I call 'custard!'.

In case the OP does not know, this is an established 'put up or shut up!'

Onus on the OP to upload a photo of said subject with a tin of 'Birds eye powder custard ' in the foreground . Good luck with that

I think in the OP's case it needs to be a bottle of Lemon & Paeroa and a bag of Minties:)

'Custard'

I'm in another hemisphere at the moment. And the Yard charges €60/hr for its people - (hardly worth the benefit to you)- and I'm not even sure they have Birds Eye Custard by the tin in Norway, all making the errand disproportionately punitive - but I should have thought of such a validation method. I like it as a concept.

That said, I will see what I can do anyway, with the exception of the gagging request until I prove myself to you. That I'll ignore for now.

In the mean time, let's gather a few more doubters; and as the terms have expanded on my side, I might reserve a proposal that we make this an annual post-winter event, if we all get along.

In the mean time - I'm still interested to hear about berthing options near the north sea, and the fuel rules (thanks to HenryF so far)...

That was the point of coming here, surreal as this experience has been, because when you show up with a 50m boat, everyone puts their hands in the till... and you just end up feeling short changed and used all the time. And I'm not a haggler... #GripeComplete

Looking forward to meeting you all...!

If, as you say, your boat is nowhere near the 400 ton mark, are you saying she's heavier or lighter? My assumption is lighter, but stand to be corrected.

Wrt fuel, you could look at the CIs, specifically Guernsey, Gibraltar and Montenegro, all offer duty (or much reduced tax) free diesel.

Thank you Sir, she's a lot bigger than 400GT.

Pushing 1200GT I think/and 1.888 million pounds by weight if I remember. Something like that.

Including the tank-bottom layer... she's got almost 2,000m^2 of deck and outdoor space. Someone will no doubt want me take a picture with the Financial Times front page with date visible and a ruler to verify that. But she's a big vessel. One and a half decks are dedicated to fuel tanks. Certainly no wave piercing fizzboat.

No go to Norway so easily. However, I will make sure the Swordfish and Saussages have plenty of custard/trifles/tiramisu to keep everyone suitably nourished.

Sounds like the makings of an epic forum cruise!

I'll post over a bottle of Bushmills! Send plenty of pics as I watch in envy from a wet, miserable West of Ireland.

Prior to that, [He] studied Cyber Security at M.I.T. .

If this is true (and it's you), we have a lot in common.

I was offered a scolarship to MIT (I come from a Jesuit background, 1 person every few years from a Jesuit school in Ireland got the offer... lucky me) when in secondary school. Unfortunately I was recovering from a broken spine and could hardly walk, nevermind focus on MIT so I passed.

Ended up studying similar in Ireland (Systems, Networks & Digital Forensics, going on after to study Business Law and still trying to finish my Digital Forensics masters... time time time!) and daily life involves same, but on a much smaller scale than you.
