Not sure if i have the correct category to type this in if not sorry! Is it legal to take my dog on our boat for a trip to France, he has the pet passport. Did hear you could only use ferries to transport animals? Cheers

Tunnel, Ferry or you can use very expensive transportation companies.
There was some discussion about relaxing it so it is worth checking the defra website.

To go to France you only need the pet passport, ours was never looked at in France, but coming back you can only use an approved route and carrier. This means you will have to send one of the crew back by ferry with the dog, and comply with some other bits of paperwork, including a vets visit and associated fees, look at the DEFRA web site.

Cheers, the problem i have is that my local operator ( brittany ferries ) wont take pets for the return crossing by foot, if you had a car to put them in thats fine. Not sure what to do! Leaving the boat in France so didnt plan to bring the dog back in it.

Find a local pet-minder & leave the dog behind. We used to use a local pensioner who liked dogs but couldn't afford to keep one, so she minded them for other people. Only ever took one at a time (unless they were used to being together) charged about a tenner a week (probably double that now) and the dog has good company, regular walks & familiar food (supplied by owner)

A further complication is that the dog has to go to a Vet in France for a worming tablet. The pet passport must be stamped with the date and time of administration and this must be between 24 hours and 5 days of ARRIVAL in UK. This will all be inspected at the relevant ferry/tunnel check in.
