Well the dreaded Birthday had 'came and went', and I had a bash sorted that involved boats and most of those who sail upon them!

Much assistance came from a certain Rat Catcher!

Anyway last weekend as you know the weather was close to horrendous, but we ventured out into the shelter of the Solent anyway!

The Rat was a liitle nervous about getting out of his berth.

PAul The Fish was ignoring the weather by teaching a WAFI how to use his new chair type thing.

Crazy Fool. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As we departed and worked our way out towards the infamous 'Bar' it became somewhat choppie!

As we circled around and around waiting for the 'Flottila' to form it was quite horrible with a good blow and lovely rain falling

Anyway, once clear of the choppie bit and out to sea in the lea of the Island it flattened out and we got faster!

The journey was made interesting aboard our little Targa 48, because my wifes friend and her husband AKA Scary Mandy, and Scary Edd both Prison Officers hadnt got much in the way of sea legs, and Scary Edd couldnt wait to get 'In Control'

Anyway, with Port Engine only in gear all tha way up the river to battle the wind and tide, having made a complete twat of myself trying to berth the boat we finally came to rest at our destination.

Immediately the fishing rods were out!

Two good looking dudes, 'escroted' the party ashore for the fun to begin!

a certain Rat was having a horrible time dancing everywhere while his poor SWMBO was in bed with a nasty cold type thing......as you can see from the forthcoming pictures, tables become the dance floor after the lovely meal had been devoured.

In attendance, were Del Boy with Two Girlies, Taaaaaaam (Tom) the AMerican chap with Maaaaargie, Paul, wifey and baby, the Scaries, SWMBO and little old me!

Made us very welcome, and we had a fantastic laugh!

On the way back on Sunday, having slept through the force 9 gale that blew all night, the flat calm waters off Portsmouth were very welcome indeed............Scary Edd, at the helm.......it was hillarious as we approached the 'Dolphin Gate' by the submarine barrier, he gripped the wheel tighter and tighter, as the gap between the posts got smaller and smaller!!!

Watching a big bloke steering his first big boat was indeed a great laugh, and one which I think he will remember for a long time.

Thanks to all those who braved the conditions to cmoe along. It was a good weekend.

Changing the subject, have any of you ever encountered this beast in the Solent???

Re: SWMBO Birthday Bash (Pikkies)

Been it that Ale House.
Tiss quite nice.
But then again I was there with Proper People.
Then again
That little River You Muppetts play about in is So sheltered.
It's a Doddle.
Then again You did seem to have a Nice Time.
What would You all do if You really had to go out to Sea!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That beast in the Solent, I tried to be clever a few years back in a piddly 24 foot boat and cut across the stern: saw this bluddy great hole in the sea heading towards me /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Green wall of water over the screen, cockpit soaked, ooops...

Were there some mice loose in the pub for everyone to get up on the tables? What's all that about?

[/ QUOTE ]
It is a local custom. On Saturday nights those that have crossed the Solent Ocean must be ridiculed and make fools of themselves by balancing on tables having consumed significant amounts of alcohol - a bit like a "Crossing the Line" ceremony. Except they don't get issued with certificates.

Kwaka............ How right you are!!! God knows what I d do if I ever had to go to sea???

Its great there really though, if you have a power boat, you can get there from pretty well anywhere around the Solent Ocean in about and hour............There wernt many Wafi's about that night!

Dave that is one Tug, never to mess with! The wake is quite simply incredible

We've got similar tugs that operate out of Avonmouth and can confirm the wash is horrendous!
Big up and down and rockin!
