Hi folks,

I have a Vanessa Flavell cooker on my boat, working on Camping Gaz (butane).
Does anybody know if it will work on propane , which is hotter as far as I know? Will there be any other implications (apart from changing the regulators etc) when changing from butane to propane?

Thanks in advance,
Fedor

Having had caravans and mobile homes etc. .... old and new gear has been changed butane / propane etc. Never had any problems - just changed the regulator.

But best is to check with Flavell / Manufacturer ... even the local Caravan shop should be able to help you ... Flavell is based on a Camping unit !

change the regulator and hey presto, blue gas in the summer and red gas in the hard winters, that is for the cooker, if you run heating system better check with manufacturer.

Why I had to change !

Blue kept 'freezing' up and my Hot Water stopped !! Caravan site owner showed me the problem and solved it in one ! I now use only Red on my Mobile Home ..... if its cold on the boat .... I may take the regulator to the boat with a red cntr and change over there ... but boat is normally left with blue.

Propane has a higher calorific value, so your cooker will run hotter. Kettles will boil quicker, toast under the grill will be done quicker (and in my experience will be done more evenly - but can also burn more easily) and the oven will run hotter.
Similar size propane bottles contain a different quantity of gas to similar sized butane bottles, but are the physical dimensions different? I'm not sure, but it may be worth checking if you have a made to measure gas locker.
