Swing mooring and fenders

My clubs' moorings are normally a good distance apart; then one day a berk with a Shrimper ( which instantly shows more money than sense ! ) picked up an obsolete mooring ridiculously close to my boat...

He wouldn't hear my first polite then firmer chats then e-mails, or even my photo's of his thing clashing against my boat.

' If you damage my boat through your incopmetence and arrogant disregard for others you'll be sorry ! ' ---- " Is that a threat ? " ---- ' Of course it bloody is ! '

However when I said ' as you reckon there's no problem you won't be bothered if I put steel spikes sticking out then ?

- And he realised I wasn't joking,:suddenly the idiot went away....

Fred Drift really, but related.

I was on an unused mooring near the southern end of the Folly moorings in the Medina (unused as in months' growth on the pickup chain) having missed the tide to get to Newport. A couple of boats not far away had dried out and the "wrong" one floated and swung round as the tide came in, clobbering the other quite firmly. Clearly the fenders would be a good idea there but, assuming they're both on their rented mooring, I'd be seriously pissed off at the mooring management if one of them was mine.

Would there be any comeback in the event of damage?
