Swimmers near Kingston today

Anyone know who had a huge group of swimmers out between Kingston and Teddington today?

There was nothing on the official River Users Group calendar for today, but they seemed to be oblivious to all around them. Didn't even have a safety boat.

With 2 dinghy fleets + some training, about 20 rowing boats, a bhangra wedding party on the Yarmouth Belle plus quite a few powerboats, I'd want more visibility than the top of my head sticking out of the water.

This seems to be coming more common, thanks to Mr Walliams. I saw 4 swimmers last week each towing a large orange balloon behind them which I suppose was to increase their visibility.

This was probably 20 times that number over 90 mins.

Swimming upstream or downstream? If upstream they could have been illegal immigrants making their way from Calais.
