Re: Buying a folkboat

What about a live link? i dident find anything with this?? but if you use the following selections...
TYYPPI = Purjeveneet
ILMOITUSTYYPPI = Myynti
then hit HAE...
the second result should be a Folkboat (kansanven

perhaps you coul say which town it is or sailing club? and if its Finland or Sweeden?

And of course any other links much appreciated

Re: Buying a folkboat

I have seen some Folkboats using a product called Heat Pal. You probably have it in the UK. It's essentially an alcohol heater without chimney. Probably kills you if you fall asleep.
I would go for the dressing up warmly at sea and car type electrical heater in a marina.

Re: Buying a folkboat

Ok, this boatmarket on-line mag is from Finland, just a very pleasant and cheap boat trip from Stockholm/Sweden.

Here's a live link...
http://www.veneporssi.fi/
but it's all in Finnish...)
Ok for me but maybe you'll struggle a little with that...

Little help...
From the home page, select HAKUPALVELU
then VENEPÖRSSI
then you are in the boat-search function.
Select...
TYYPPI (type) = Purjeveneet (sailing boat)
ILMOITUSTYYPPI (advert type) = Myynti (for sale)
MERKKI (mark/model) = Kansanvene (folkboat)
HAE (search)

Prices can be very reasonable. Not everything is expensive here. Costs me about £300/year to keep my boat on a pontoon through the summer and lift out for winter...)

Forgot to say, as this is a commercial mag (bit like E&M) you have to register to get more information, like location/phone no. etc.
But if you see anything, drop me a PM and we'll take it further if you want.

Heat Pal works really well. It's a short/fat cylindrical spirit burner which can also be used for a quick brew )
But as said, you need to make sure that you have enough ventilation when using it. Also helps to keep the condensation down so you're not too wet if you survive...)

Re: Buying a folkboat

Great Thanks! This might not be the main season for selling boats!!! Its quite everywhere. i got this message which i imagin meens none for sale at the moment? :

Hakuehdot: | Merkki: kansanveno |

Hakuehdoillasi ei löytynyt yhtään ilmoitusta! Yritä uudelleen.

I have found folk boats in England Scotland and Holland, but ive always wanted to visit Finland as there are so many Finns living in or near where i am,

Now i have my cruising association handbook open to see how best to sail home, and it looks wonderful! If i really find a folkboat i have already decided to take at least two months or more to collect it, And perhaps it could be interesting to rent a mooring there for one year or two just to really have a good reason and way to see the region.
Who knows i may even learn a bit of Finnish!!!

Yep, you're right, it didn't find any.

Ok, it didn't recognise the mark/make.
You typed "kansanveno"
Change it to "kansanvene" and it should work.

And welcome to Finland if ever you get here )

Re: Buying a folkboat

I have a heat pal, i bought it years ago for myvery old( 1870) sail boat which i sailed on a lake, I bought her sunk! she had sunk at her mooring in a storm, and i managed to renovate her,
With the heat pal in winter i would sail to the island, befor leaving i would light the heat pal below put a kettel on it and 30/40 minites later when i arrived the cabin would be walm and the tea made!
I dont think i would use it in a closed cabin its about the same as leaving the gas stove on, And in a folk boat im not sure it would heat enough??

Re: Buying a folkboat

Thanks! unfortunatly my best Finnish freind has just left for Sweeden where she is spending Christmas, and after she will be making a round the world by air trip for three months!! She will be very amazed if she finds im leaving for Finland i dose seem a wonderful opertunity, to buy the boat i really want and see a region ive always wanted to go to and in Finnland i see you can race with a spinaker un like sweeden so there will be diference inthe boats.
Now im going to try again--in about half an hour anyway as i must get some wood for the heating

Re: Buying a folkboat

Well, I have a First 31.7 (30 ft), and in this boat we have a Webasto 3500, with which we are very pleased.
BTW, we used to have a maxi 80 racer, 26ft., without a heater. This practically meant that the sailing season was over in september/october.

Re: Buying a folkboat

BTW there is a yellow IF boat for sale at my club (Stockholm) right now. It's in very good condition and being sold because of owner's medical problems. It's GRP of course, but the IF is essentially a folkboat with a self draining cockpit and an engine well.

I could ask the owner for a price if you are interested.

Re: Buying a folkboat

Yes i am interested, ive never seen a plastic IF though,In my plan! i want a self draining cockpit and engin!!also push pit and pullpit,(to mount a post for my antena and solar panel) furling headsail and mainsail sheet track on a bridge deck directly in front of the cabin entrance!!!
That said if i find a folkboat as the one in the link you gave that is what i want,no inboard no push nor pullpit later i will add these perhaps if theres not an engin an out board will do?? ive only ever tried one sailboat with an out board, which left me to paddle up a river!! untill i got a tow! and as for manovering it it was a disaster!! but it was a 24foot(7meter50) light finn keel plastic racer!
So i will say yes please ask the price and the spec. I would prefer wood but yes it will give me an idea of price equiment. Oh yes and a bucket will do but is there room to fit a small head(toilet) in the forpeak under the deck wihtout any raised cabin? as on the folkboat in that link??
I have looked at the IF page they do have lots of teak and very many configeration possabilities-Im sure an image may not be practical a description of the layout will be fine and i can look at the IF site to visulise the result.

Thanks thats really kind of you i really do apreciate it.

Thank you really

Re: Buying a folkboat

Thats great thanks, apart from the normal layout, could you look to see if it has an anchor winch? As i anchor really a lot and move a lot as well, I think i made an error by selling a motor boat i bought a while ago with a SL manual winch, which id fitted, the new owner threw it away!!! he gave it to a fitter and refitted the electric one!!
Thanks again im now thinking of staying in the Baltic for a year or two if i find a what i want which seems i will, I cant wait to see my Finnish freinds reaction, Just now shes in Stockholm for christmas--
