Just seems that way when you read the AAIB reports cos they fly in flocks ..

Just fly them according to the book and get on to the ground if any unusual vibrations....One landed almost in our back garden recently and sounded like it had collected a few Tesco shopping bags on one of its rotor tips.

That was one of the most difficult things I found when learning in an Enstrom. The throttle correlator was rubbish and you opened and closed the throttle in the opposite direction to motorbikes.

Do a search on youtube for robinson/r22/r44 crash and there's plenty there. God know how many others weren't caught in film.

Guess I have been lucky to get this far.
I think if you take the time to read the accident reports I bet 95% of them due to pilot error ie flying in bad weather and nothing to do with the design of the helicopter. R44s and R22s popular with private pilots as they so much cheaper to own and maintain and as private pilots more likely to get themselves in trouble due to lack of experience hence the stats may be skewed to showing Robinsons more dangerous than others.

They do... but it is actually the electronic governor that is so good at keeping the RPM correct rather than the mechanical correlator.

PS I have several hundred incident free hours on both the R22 and R44.
 
Of course it could just be the same reason more people have crashes in Mondeos than Veyrons: because, relatively speaking there are a lot of them.
 
I have also been learning in both R22's & R44's over the last 3-4 months & will definately be getting an R44 once passed. Shame about the timing...just got rid of the Camargue.
The more people you talk to about Robinsons (who fly themselves) the more it makes sense over turbine engined alternatives.
 
Hydropool, why dont you buy mine now then and learn to fly in it. All you have to pay for then is the instructors time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I promise you wont find a better secondhand one on market. Mine has basically just been run in. As new. Go on. What you waiting for!!
