Hi all

We are going to be making the above trip next Friday for the Bournemouth air show weekend. We'll probably be heading off around 1700hrs and the long range forecast looks decent. Just wondering, if anyone else is making the trip and roughly how long would one expect it to take at a cruising speed of circa 25 knots

Cheers

Oh c'mon guys...he's only asking to get an idea. A fair enough question I think. Doesn't mean he's not going to plan it.

Blimey, bit harsh on the guy. Seems a fair enough question to ask.

The Poole Harbour speed limit is 10 knots but you'll make a lot of wash. At 6-7 knots it's about 15 minutes from the chain ferry to Salterns Marina. I would take the North Channel rather than the main channel as there is a large sandbank that runs parallel with the marina and it's touch and go to cross it even at high tide. North channel will take you directly into Salterns - follow the buoys that dogleg outside the marina entrance and don't cut them or you risk a prop at low water. Chain ferry has priority over everything in the harbour and keep clear either end as the chains don't drop away quite a quickly as you think they might.

Other than that enjoy the airshow. It's a bit of a free for all back into the harbour once the show has finished so either hang back for 20 minutes or join the chaos getting past the chain ferry!

Just done it and now at Poole quay. Assume 30 mins to get down the Hamble, 30 mins to needles, 40 mins to Bournemouth pier and same again to Salterns

Have you considered going round North Head buoy and directly to the Looe channel rather than going past the Needles? Its generally quicker and less rough.

Completely agree I only go to the Needles when it's flat calm or the guests really really want to otherwise North Head buoy every time.
