Swamped dinghys

I have an eight foot wooden clinker dinghy (no bouyancy tanks). If I fill her with sea water, not surprisingly she will not sink.
If I have a similar fibre glass dinghy (no bouyancy tanks) and I fill her with sea water will she sink? N, Carslaw

GRP is denser than water, unless the layup has lots of entrained air voids, or low density micro fibres.

Wood is less dense than water (until waterlogged) and will float.
Fibreglass is denser than water & will sink. Q.E.D.

I hope I dont disappoint you. I simply wanted to get an idea about the superior qualities of a wooden boat which has no need for bouyancy tanks. I suspect that there may be some tragedies to dinghies fibre glass made in which the boat has never been recovered. N Carslaw

Not sure i would ever agree with this - only if you don't have anything heavy in it (like people, baggage, outboards etc), and even then it will only float with the gunwhales showing.
