I have one of these over in Norway. used in salt water but flushed with fresh if not being used for a couple of weeks.
Got my mate to start it late winter early spring whilst in the tub. All ok
Due to illness he could not use until 2 weeks ago, buuuuut it would not start! checked fuel, spark all seemed ok but not a sign of starting.
I told him its under guarantee take it back for them to sort.
They gave him the smug "oh what have you done" smile until they tried to start it and were extremely baffled " they don't normally do that" , leave it with us.

So last night we had our first chat for a while and the claimed reason is
" Suzuki had a defective batch of exhaust gaskets that broke down in salt water. this allows water to get on the exhaust valve stem which corrodes and in some case stops the valve from closing so no compression and no start. "
Sounds plausible ish but it is all getting done under warranty but parts will take a while as they do not hold stock and they have long delays in shipping and release due to Corona.
Still winter is there now so he wont need it for a while.

Just thought i would put the info into the archive for some unfortunate souls future reference because it is not the sort of thing you would expect from your normal fault finding routine.

Regards Clive

This appears to be a fairly common problem now on the smaller later model Suzuki outboards. Another rumor going around is where the clearance between the valve stems and the guides is on the tight side and after a short storage period the valves that are sticking in the open position due to slight corrosion/rust, could get hit by the piston when trying to start which bend the valves and sometimes the pushrods too.
