Its been sat in the shed over the winter and started on the second pull with some new petrol. So I assume I need to change the motor oil, change the gearbox oil, and the plug. One question though...I bought an impeller too...where does it go and how do you get to it? Any pics or videos anywhere?

And for any of the fluid or impeller changes, do I need anything else in terms of gaskets or similar?

Cheers!

Yes change the engine oil

Yes change the gearcase oil. If the old oil isnot still "clear and bright" it indicates water ingress and the need to replace gearcase seals

Spark plug should be Ok but change if any problems encountered

Replace the impeller if in any doubt about it pumping properly

The water pump is located on top of the gear case and the impeller is driven by the vertical drive shaft as far as I can see on this model
You may need a gasket and an O ring for the pump housing

I found the most usefull thing was fresh petrol. I had winterised by running the carb dry to get rid of petrol there: been caught by that before but hadn`t discarded the remaining petrol in the tank. Refused to start after the winter until I discarded the old and filled with new, works a dream! The other thing I did was to over fill with oil by misunderstanding the sight gauge, works much better with a little less oil to the middle not top of the sight gauge! otherwise for a few minutes trip to the mooring I am sure the average OB dies through under use!

Interesting - I got my Suzuki 2.2 out today and it started on the 3rd pull. I had drained the carb last year but didn't change the fuel in the tank, just gave it a good shake. Mind you when I got it on the dinghy it started 'rattling' alarmingly when revved up and at certain revs. Took the cover off when home, checked all nuts and screws etc. and refitted and it appears to now be OK in the water butt but we'll see next time on the dinghy.

Give it a good flush through.

Mine has recently died a death due to seizure thanks to a salt build up in the cooling channels.

The annoying thing was that the water tell tale showed no sign of the impending disaster.

The telltales usually do little more than confirm that the pump is pumping. They don't tell you that water is passing though all the cooling passages.
