Suzuki DF2.5 outboard lock

Very true!

One of the best deterrents is to get a spare engine cover and make it look as tatty as possible - not easy then to sell on.

I sprayed silly go-faster arrows on the side of our Suzuki DF2.5 with gold paint and masking tape, to make it look unappealingly identifiable to a thief as I couldn’t bring my self to scuff up a new engine really badly.

Never mind insurance wording, I would still rather loose a £500 outboard than half a season while strucrural repairs are carried out, have seen outboards removed with chainsaws and it's not pretty.

Obviously your choice with a cheap outboard but with a £1,800 one I would like to make a claim in the unlikely event here it gets nicked.

The "Small" Outboard lock from MotorLocUSA (www.motorlocusa.com), is made for the Suzuki 2.5. It is not the least expensive, but is marine grade stainless steel with a brass locking mechanism. Very highly rated im the UK where you must have a lock to get your motor insured.
