Anyone been to Sutton Marina lately?
Visited there last week and how expensive!
Great service and very friendly staff but priced us out for future returns.
Shame as I do like it there, mayflower in the future.
Is mayflower ok?

Yes agree great marina shame about the price.
Just under a £100 for a ten metre boat for two nights!

I'll have to avoid in the future as mayflower is £31.50 a night, so will be heading there, though not cheap but cheaper than Sutton.

Mayflower is fine.
Just watch out for the tide that flows through it.
Best to avoid approaching in the middle if a spring tide if you are entering via the north entrance.
Does not mean you can do it just that the tide can make it interesting.

Questioning robertj's post on the pricing as it's considerably more than we paid last time we were there I just checked on their website and WTF?!!! £4.90/m for under 13m?? That's £60 for us: pretty sure that's a 33% increase over 3 years ago (and yes, I'm sure it was either June or July we were there). That's got to be the most expensive marina in the UK.

All my posts about "yes, expensive but worth it" I now take back. Previously I was OK with paying what I *thought* was top dollar for a lovely marina with a great location but I'll definitely be giving it a miss from now on.

Well, cheers for the heads-up as Sutton Harbour was always where we used to go in Plymouth. So we'd have gone there again without considering any alternative, and been unpleasantly surprised by the new rip-off price.

That's £60 for us: pretty sure that's a 50% increase over 3 years ago (and yes, I'm sure it was either June or July we were there). That's got to be the most expensive marina in the UK.

In the Summer edition of PBO it lists Marina charges. For Sutton Harbour it gives £3.75 per meter, which is considerably less than it appears to be. Mayflower is shown as £3.15, which appears to be correct as per the OP. I assume that Sutton Harbour charge more for the benefits of being in the Barbican, whereas Mayflower is a little more isolated from the bright lights.

I was shocked at £4.90 p/m. I said to the cashier whether she had made a mistake, no she said, we've had a price increase!!

At £49 for a 10m boat per night is very steep indeed, although location is great if you have children with plenty of non-boaty activities within a short walk.

Here's the price list from the Sutton Harbour web site:

£3.75/m seems to be what the US travel industry would call the "shoulder season" rates. Like Pete we always just went there: Staff are great, easy access to services around QAB, right in the middle of the Barbican, great facilities. Can't stomach £4.90/m though. "rip off"? I'd normally reserve that term for exploitation of people who don't have a choice and I suppose we do. Maybe they have enough custom from wealthy Dutch people during the summer.

We spent a very pleasant last winter there, but those new prices are shocking, almost £90 a night for us! Only redeeming aspect is their 3 nights for the price of 2 offer, but no good for those only wanting just 1 or 2 nights.

Is there anywhere more expensive for a one night stay?

Well, we do now thanks to this thread. Had I not seen it, we'd have certainly gone there on our way back from Falmouth in a few weeks' time. After going up to the office to pay, with the boat snugly tied up and the post-arrival beer and crisps in the cockpit, crew gone ashore to the ablutions and possibly dinner in the oven, would I have demanded they open the gates and let us depart back into the Cattewater to find somewhere less extortionate? Almost certainly not.

Well actually, "+1": once the crisps are out I'd probably swallow my pride and stay for 1 night before moving rather than the at-least-2 I would otherwise have done.

thanks for posting this - we too would have called in but now won't - very offputting price - have visited before and enjoyed marina (and staff and facilities were excellent) but this puts it beyond our comfort level - incidentally their 3 nights for price of 2 does not appear to apply peak season

That's nuts. Sutton Harbour was my favourite, better showers than Berthon but they obviously don't want visiting yachts at that price. They are clearly pricing to keep visitors away.
