I will be travelling from the West Country to Oban towards the end of next week to view a couple of boats.

Can anyone assist with details of a surveyor(s) they can recommend in the Oban area? I've tried one or two, but without success so far.

Thanks

Gary Miller

Try Murray Cormack Associates - 01369 830210. They are just outside Oban. Alternatively, if you are prepared to pay his travelling expenses from Rosneath, you could go to the great man himself - Iain Nicholson

Strongly disagree!!!
don't know Murray Cormack Associates, I'm sure they're perfectly OK, however I would definately recommend Ian Nicolson. Have heard one or two people moan about him - mostly those selling... from a buyers point of view Ian is extremely thourough and will tell it like it is.. Got him to survey a couple of boats for me about three yrs ago. Not just one page general report, but a fully detailed description....and he was spot on with all his recommendations... well worth the money...

I used Mike Hall at Adamsons to survey a boat in the Oban area - he worked out cheaper than Murray Cormack who also raised their quoted prices for no reason - he was very good and we used him again for the boat we actually boat - very pleased

Tread carefully

It would look like the jury is out on who to use. I know of none but would issue a word of caution going from previous threads on the subject, I suspect that the situation in Scotland is slightly more "local" than elsewhere; be wary of a surveyor recommended by the broker, confirm your instructions in writing, ensure that all parts of the boat are accessable, confirm whether or not the surveyor has surveyed the boat before (and when), check his PI cover.

Try Jim Mcilwraith of Systems One. He surveyed my boat in Balvicar. Not the cheapest, but certainly thourough.
