Anyone able to recommend a good surveyor in the West Country? Devon is the most likely location.

I have used Rob Perry in the past several times. http://www.robperrymarine.co.uk/ They are based near Weymouth, but Rob will usually travel up and down the South Coast. I always use him, because unlike many he is Powerboat man and knows engines.

If you are looking for someone to do an engine survey and/or sea trial though, give Volvopaul on here a PM.
 
Many thanks. Unfortunately it is a bit off volvopaul's patch but I will have a look at the surveyor you recommend
 
I could tell you of one to avoid. A total d*ck head who is obsessed with the BSS even if the boat is never going inland! Also seems to think that a boat has to be retrospectively upgraded to comply with 2012 regs.

Someone very good in Devon if you want an ex-scientist / practical advise and support after the survey [http://www.alphayachtsurveys.co.uk/]. I got photographs of every dodgy skin fitting and seeping engine gasket, a sea trial and advice about electrics, navigation electronics, engine, handling and paint. You get a glossy report and a CD with hundreds of pictures. There was even a 2D graph of hull moisture reading. He also said what to not worry about. If there is nothing wrong he wont make stuff up to justify the cost.

I've known Rob from the day he set up in business back in the 80's, he's actually based just up the hill from Lyme Regis.. I would class him more as an engine specialist, knows his stuff and a really nice guy.
