Surveyor for structural prob\'s

A friend's nauticat 44 has lifted several areas of deck where plates hold stays from the for'd mast......(no cracks, but has made a mound in the deck, some 8mm high at worst).

Recommendations for a surveyor/other expert to advise re. best way to strengthen & probable cause.???

"experts"/bosses opinions at yard seem a little divided & We don't want to go mad beefing up something if problem caused by overtightening/whatever.

Chichester/portsmouth area please.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Surveyor for structural prob\'s

I had a very similar problem, at Hayling Island in fact. I`ve learnt a lot as follows;'

1. Let the original designer get involved first if you can. They know the boat and may have had experience of rectifying this before. 2. Don`t trust surveyors. I used a high profile one in that area and he cocked it up with no liability after catatrophic failure of the repair during a race. 3. I highly reccommend John at The Hayling Yacht Co. for consultation or repair. Lots of knowledge and a gentleman. It may be nothing - these things move, but worth checking as though you suspect it about to pull out, for peace of mind.
