had survey result today, everything on the report looked rosey, usual sort of things (for a second hand boat)mainly cosmetic, new anti fouling,re-sealing of a window, filler compound beneath gunwhales dried out in places, service of engine and outdrive advisory, and repair to electrically operated power trim, seems innocent enough,so rings broker to discuss said items, advised that the power trim needs sorting, can they get a quote from the guys on the yard,to have alook at the power trim, and get back to me, with a price???? so they did, oh!dear best get onto vendor to re negotiate price, as said work could run into a lot of money, possibly as much as £1200.00 does that sound right for a volvo sterndrive 280 with electric trim???

Firstly are you sure its a 280 with power trim eg. 280T as they aren't that common although Oldgit has them! My 280s have power lift which is different to power trim and is done with a leccy motor driving a leadscrew. eg, motor and a couple of relays.
Sounds like they've arbitrly quoted for virtual replacement of everything, pump ram etc. Consensus is that most probs are electrical or the rams seized, have you tried it does it do anything either up or down, do you get motor running noises.
Sounds exhorbitant I'd suggest since it's a negotiation point getting a V%$vo dealer to have a look.

It has got to be sorted before anyone buys that boat and the price quoted is prob not far off.Up to seller to adjust price if he wants to sell.Prob a lot of time involved by the time bits are sourced and whoever fixes it works it into his list of stuff to do.
