To create more space adjacent to my batteries would It be acceptable to turn the 1202 Battery Isolator through 90 degrees? My concern is that the fins would be horizontal rather than vertical. I can’t find any installation instructions online.

Only thing I can recall about cooling fins on such - is the old Split Diode units for charging .... the manuals used to talk about having the fins vertical for air to rise through them taking heat away and cool air replacing ... if horizontal - air can be near static ...

With usually poor air circulation in an engine or battery bay - does it make any difference ???

Thanks very much. I suspect it doesn’t really matter but…..??

I have e-mailed the manufacturers in the US but it is gong to be safer/easier for them to say that it does matter than it doesn’t.

The normal orientation for Sure Power diodes is with the fins horizontal, but it makes no difference if they are vertical. Sure power (and all others that i have seen) do not specify an orientation, just that it needs to be in a well vented space.

Its been many years since fitting finned items ... and could well be horizontal ... but I seem to recall the texts about air passage ..

I'll see if I can find the old Instructions just out of interest.

Sure Power don't specify an orientation, but all of the wiring digrams show them mounted with the fins horizontal. I don't see either making a difference to be honest.

The general installation instructions say mount in a dry location as close to the alternators as possible , away from heat sources. Allow for proper ventilation. Do not mount on the engine.
There is no mention of orientation here or in the additional instructions for marine installations

Note what it says about not overtightening the bottom nuts on the terminal posts

Thanks everybody! By rotating it, I can raise it and slide it sideways, gaining myself an extra 100mm
