I've got a 12v portable cool box that we plug into a cigarete lighter type socket on my friends fishing boat but I've noticed that it interferes with the VHF (buzzing sound when receiving transmissions). The box has got a fan and I guess that's what's causing the interference. Has anyone else had this sort of problem and found a way of suppressing the offending item.

usual way is to solder a small value capacitor across the terminals of the motor.
Sorry, can't suggest a value for it but my references are at work and I'm not going there for ages. I know it isn't an electrolytic.
Try a Maplin shop if no-one else comes through on here.

I tried fixing a similar problem to this using a ferrite choke purchased from maplins based on a post about a month ago.

Tried it out this weekend but it didn't work. I'm taking the choke back to change for a smaller one as it was too large in diameter, fingers crossed.

Is this all a waste of time, should I be trying your method ?
