Sunseeker salesmen- The saga continues

Voting continues..

Long Term dither? You're winding me up...it's only taken a year so far....I'm going to look at Monagesque boat this weekend hopefully - broker willing.
If it's sound and clean it's best value.
It hasn't got Aircon , and I'm not sure how much to retrofit. Interesting these boats seldom have Gen fitted, another Gen question for S/seeker people this weekend.

Re: Gennny/aircon

These boats are the ultimate speedboat. They aren't "boaty" boats - you get up in the morning, drive to boat, get onnem, onnem, turnem on, blast off, drop hook, jump in for a swim, then on to somewhere else (ashore, usually) for lunch, then go home. If you'r quite adventurous you might stay in another port for a night and come back the next day.

But, if you want to stay at anchor, or live on the boat for a week, or go to a port where you aren't sure if there's leccky...you'll need a generator, and air, and may need a different boat.

The sunseeker man will look sideways at the idea of plonking in a generator and air, cos all these add weight, and slow the thing down, and try and make it into a carmargue which is indeed a bit more liveaboardy.

If your tendency upon reaching home port is to go back home and meet up with all your mates there and so on then a s48 is fine. If your idea of the boat is to explore all along the coast, in and out the nooks and crannies for a whole week or more, just take it as it comes, we could anchor here or carry on to reach xyz......then a s48 isn't the right boat, imho.

For an s48, you and swmbo should LIKE sprawling out sunbathing on sunbeds in hot sun, reading, having a drink, then sitting out in hot sun some more. This is why I sed the icemaker is a key requirement.

But if you a bit sheddish like me and think that the one ace thing bout a boat is having a load of space to saw things up and play with interesting chandelry, then s48 is not best choice.

Air and a genny will be umm 15k. Betcha you wouldn't get any of that back. At speed, I bet all the nice cold air wil get sucked out anyway, and yerd only need a bit of a hatch open to swap the air at 35 knots+

INcidentaslly, if there no genny, I trust that the cooking is gas? - otherwise no cups of tea until shorepowr is hooked up....

Gennny/aircon/lifestyle

You have the lifestyle in one....idea is to break TB is gently to idea of really going for it bigtime. SOF ideal, to be honest even if we do stay away, we're just as likely to B&B it.

Most have these boats have AC but no Gen. .e. Ideal for use off shore power. I din't want Gen only AC. See Below

Interesting observation , cooking is actually leccy !!! Shame , will have to drink Beer and Vino instead.

AC for use in port , crashing /winding down/

Best mate reckons way to make fortune is buy boats, remove and sell engines, replace space with freezer/fridges 'cos most of the boast in SOF never go anywhere anyway.

Re: Don\'t fit aircon

imho, if no genny and in that boat, this won't be a great idea. Leave it and decide later, after the first season. It will be hot when you arrive at boat, but get out into bay makes it immediately cooler.

First off, try getting a decent fan (not the rubber bladed things a proper one) for whooshy air thru the boat whilst in port.

and of course...airco wil be an excellent reason to change boats. If you find yourself wanting to stay on the boat, watch tv downstairs...change the boat.

imho, more important will be to have enough anchor chain. You'll need 50 metres to anchor in the deep Theoule bay protected from prevailing westerlies just outside la rague. Nice and cool there cos the rock don't get the midday and afternoon sun. Saved 15 grand !

I would'nt be scared of ex charter boats providing the price is right and by that I would mean 10-20% cheaper. Things like gel coat damage can be repaired fairly cheaply and you could re-upholster and re-carpet the whole boat for less than £5k
Obviously, you have to get a comprehensive hull and machinery service done to check there are no hidden horrors but even private owners can abuse their boats - see Col's thread 'Something for the Weekend'!

Re: Gennny/aircon

You started worryinmg me.

Hopefully my boat must have lots of space / things to play with.

Then remembered , loads of room around and excellent access to the engines and 3 of them . so plenty of toys to play with.

Task 1 ...fit own davits to have silly small rib for going ashore after anchoring at La Garoupe for lunch
