Sunseeker Portofino 47, Fairline Targa 47 gt or Princess v48 - which to buy?

Ok maybe I was a little harsh on The Targa 44GT, it isn't terrible, but certainly isn't Sporty! Is that a nautical term? If you want Sporty you have to take a ride in the Cranchi Med 44, that thing is a flying machine! 40 knots with Twin D6 370's on Pods. Interior isn't a patch on the Targa but crikey it flies and commands attention for a lower budget. You have to ask yourself, is the guy in the Targa 44 enjoying himself anymore than the guy in the Cranchi? I would say not! Especially with an extra £100k in his pocket.
Sporty in relation to response through the helm and reaction time lock to lock. OK so it's a 40ft plus boat, it's never going to handle like a rib, but my comment was in comparison to the other two shaf drive boats I have owned.

Thanks for the info. A mate has just suggested a Princess v45 too. On paper it seems a similar boat to the targa 47 but better fuel economy due the the weight and drives. Any one go any input on one of these? This decision making is hard work lol

The V45 was on our list for a short time, a very sleek looking boat and great accomadation but it's just too big for outdrives ,
Particularly in a windy marina. The two we looked at also felt date down below.
Would be a struggle to resell unless cheap
Cheers

A few people have said that they would be a hadfull on drives but I could park my Ss Apache 45 on drives in any conditions. The extra couple of knots and 30% better consumption was what tempted me. Has anyone on this site got one?

BCUK recently had one in and it sold really quickly and it wasn't exactly the cheapest out there either. Nice boats and with outdrives will feel that bit more 'sporty' than a shaft driven boat of a similar size. My V40 on outdrives was a sportsboat in comparison to the Targa 43 that followed, that was no fun at all on shafts.
Not sure how often you will be caught out with too much wind in a marina, a competent helmsman should be able to work around that but appreciate that not everyone is competent enough.

The real problem would be the height the weight and not the length on itself.
I have helmed a 50 Superhawk, and since it is lower in the water then my Gobbi 335 SC I think it is easier to handle in windy conditions.

A good bow thruster should solve most problems on the Princess V45.
For a large sport cruisers on stern drive and with old looking cherry wood interior the V45 does still hold good value surprisingly even here in the Med.
If they are selling at that value I do not know.

we to had a look at the v45, but wanted to get away from outdrives and constant anode checking and again a canvas roof, but would also note it has a small tender garage, you "can" fit a williams 285 in but you have to deflate it, whereas the 47 will fit without, and even if you don t mind deflating and inflating i belive you can get a 325 williams which is a much better tender imho.

You can indeed get a Williams 325 in the back of a T47, but again the tubes must be slightly deflated to stop it from being wedged in.
I totally agree that albeit the 285 is a a great boat if that is all you can fit, but the practicality and drive of the 325 is infinitely better, ie doesn't point to the sky at slow speeds,

We have a 2009 T47 and now in our 3rd season. This now our 3rd Fairline having previously owned a Phantom 40 and Targa 44 on IPS.
Feel free to ask questions (wil do my best to answer) and you'd be more than welcome to have a poke round our boat if your close to Swanwick Marina.

Regards

Phil
Hi Phil,
Have you still got your t47?
We’re seriously looking to move up to one from a t40. Can you provide any particular pointers to watch out for when viewing one please? If you still have your’s do you fancy an upgrade?
Regards Nigel

Thanks TK.
I will do the sensible thing and try it. I know a similar size ski (Yamaha) goes in as I watched it!
Our's is a 2up but not a lot of difference to 3up. I will post result!
Cheers Nigel

Yes you can get a 2up trix in the garage of a T47 you just have to lower the guide rails by approximately 20mm. We just tried it.

When I say lower the rails I mean put the rails on the other side of the supporting’L’ brackets, takes 30minutes. This lowers the ski enough to fit the garage.
