We are in the process of buying a Martinque 36 (1991) with 2 x 200 HP Volvo 41B engines on volvo sterndrives. She is in pretty good condition, need a bit of updating, Would like to know if anybody owns or has previous experience of the Martinique, good points weeknesses etc.

Yes it is Jessica Dreaming, we were going to contact you via the broker regarding history and work done to the boat, thanks for replying to this thread, would like to chat with you, would it be possible to call me on: 07768 363923

For me a Sunseeker 36 Martinique with 2 x 200hp is very under powered.
Still would be good if used for inland cruising IMO.

By today's standards maybe but in 1991 the AD41 was about it for outdrive power.
I think that predates the KAD42 by a couple of years.

It's why the solution for bug speed was triple engine setups but these were expensive dive and unpopular.

The M36 is fine with AD41s but it might be worth getting then tuned to ensure they are along 200HP - I know they have very safely lifted to 220/230 for reasonable cost in other boats.

Or you could go down the kadzilla route.....

Kad42 was out in 1991. What I know people do is they put the higher output turbos which should add some horses.

I had a martinique 38 which is the same boat but with transom door and integrated swim platform.
From memory it did close to 30 knows. A great soft riding hull. Great sports boat. Downside on sunseekers of that era is that you get less interior room than a fairline/sealine for example.
Your turbo's intercoolers need to be in good nick as indeed the boat does not have much reserve power. That said the AD41's are probably the most reliable volvo's to date and the outdrive have less issues than many modern ones. If not done yet I presume the windscreen might need replacing as they tend to craze onder the sunlight. Will happily cruise at 24-25 knows so fine if you are not obsessed with top speed and less to go wrong. On the engines valve clearances must be checked every 200 hours I think.

Many happy memories ont he martinique. Only changed for a Targa 40 as we used the tender daily with kids going to a beach so wanted a garage.
A lot of boat for the budget I think.
