Sunseeker Camargue 50 Any Thoughts?

Does anyone have any 'REAL' estimations of fuel 'DRINKAGE' of a CAT 660 or Volvo D-12 engined model, or should I not ask and just pour the stuff into the sea direct from the fuel pump at Sparkes??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hmm I am trying to remember this, but Volvo is a bit more economic on the lower rev range, a slight difference of about 10 litres per hour engine,
I recall the Volvos consume about 60 litres per hour engine at 26 knots cant remember the reving tough
Cats consumes 80 LPH per eng at 1850 giving about 28 knots

speed is about the same but managed to touch 37 knots with the D12s, but with Cats it planned about 1.5 knot before speed with Cats is 35 knots

Jez, I dont wanna play with anyone.............I just think they look the 'Dog Danglies', and am just trying to get some idea in real terms how big a wallet one needs to run the flaming thing.............I think I'd get bored of daytrips to East Head!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

to be honest thanks to modern Cats and Volvos the 50 Camargue would consume less then the smaller 44 Camargue or a 48 Targa equipped with smaller older engines and cruising at about 25/27 knots
while the consumption is real one also has to consider the type of displacement is moving and at 17000 kg the Camargue is no joke
still burning 120 LPH per hours and crusing at 26 knots is not bad for a 50 footer

Hey Poweryacht make your flippin mind up matey............you said 80 litres an hour earlier...............I was almost getting used to that............NOW 120!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

No Way! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

HANG ON.......................'PER ENGINE'>>>>>>>>>>>ARE YOU SURE!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Not too far off, the D12/675 is stated to burn approx 65 L / hr @ 1800 RPM ...... ASSUMING your propellor load is as calculated..... My guess is that the factory condition calculated load may be theoretical and that you need to allow for 75 L plus per hour .... At WOT (2300 RPM), these burn round 125 L/HR per engine and I'd hazard to guess that 1800 RPM will represent approx 60% load, instead of less than 50% as the factory condition calculated fuel curve shows...

Sounds about right to me. My Cats are drinking 150 litres/hour at cruise speed so poweryacht's figures are definitely per engine. Nobody ever said moboing was cheap /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

with Cats burn at 1800 RPM as stated by onboard computer 80 LPH per engine total 160 LPH crusiing at 28 knots

with Volvos it was 120 LPH cruising at 26 knots, start going over the 1800 and they drink more
the testing was held in Central Med conditions, so I calcuate a knot or more should be performed in UK waters which

yeah those 435hp V8 Cats drink like crazy add to that the heavy construction associtated with Ferretti and there you go, with the 53 and 669 hp Cats cruising at 22/23 knots you will be drinking the same but
still a lovely boat tough GIMME GIMME

Yup, I've heard that the 660hp Cats in the F53 are well suited to the boat and give good economy (well, relatively speaking)

So, am I advised to go the Volvo D-12 route or Cats?

There are a few about with each really.

if you get a same deal for engine I suggest the Volvo D12, still not much difference from the CATs tough

AFAIK, the D12's are a more modern engine and, if poweryacht is right, they seem to use less juice, so that's my suggestion. But I'd be a bit surprised if the Cat engined boats weren't cheaper 'coz the Cats are less powerful than the D12's so, really, it depends on your budget ultimately

Argonautical (or anyone else )an old post here , did you have any joy with the 40-50 sunseeker as I'm following your train of thought but concerned with fuel burn as stated?
