sunrise or sunset - which do you prefer?

what I never understand

Definitely the sunrise. Nothing to beat an early start to catch the tide, the anticipation, the delightful thrill of seeing dawn, the bacon sandwiches, the prospect of a day at sea, bring it on.

I love to be sailing at sunset

I will often drop anchor mid afternoon and then be sailing while the sun is going down

that way instead of watching one sunset you see a hundred as the light changes across the water

drive Jill crazy, she has just settled down for the evening with a wine and a book and I start making sail

How could you? You devil you! I don't mind a sunset either, but prefer to be settled with a glass of wine by then.

A 4am start in the dawn half light with a fishing boat flashing his nav lights " Good Morning" as we head off to the dark western ocean...

Or a Hebridean sunset with a very talented opera singer on the only other yacht singing with the voice of an angel as the red sun went down.

What's sunrise? Fraid I'm not a morning person!

Me neither. Every year I promise myself I will make a point of getting up early. Last year it rained so that never happened.

I have had some fantastic sunrises though. In the Yorkshire forests in the snow for instance. Beautiful.

I also enjoy a nice sunset. If you have read Shining Levels by John Wyatt you will recognise the evening view of the sun on the water we get from our lounge (through the trees) on a sunny evening.

Another glorious sunrise...

I like both sunsets and sunrises, but when crossing the Channel from Plymouth to the Channel Islands I look forward to nice sunrises. Easier to spot the ships too:cool:

This is a picture of the sun setting off Start Point, at just before 10 pm. The sea was like a millpool!
